formiminoglutamic acid /for·mim·i·no·glu·tam·ic ac·id/ (FIGLU) (for-mim″ĭ-no-gloo-tam´ik) an intermediate in the catabolic pathway from histidine to glutamate; it may be excreted in the urine in liver disease, vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, or in glutamic formiminotransferase deficiency.

An intermediate that forms during the conversion of histidine to glutamic acid.

formiminoglutamic acid (FIGLU)
[fôrmim′inōglo̅o̅tam′ik]
a compound formed in the metabolism of histidine, present in urine in elevated levels in folic acid deficiency. Increased excretion of FIGLU may indicate folic acid deficiency.

a product of histidine metabolism. The urine FIGLU concentration is elevated in some individuals with folic acid deficiency.
