fluorocarbons [floo͡r′ōkär′bəns] Etymology: L, fluere, to flow, carbo, coal hydrocarbons where some or all of the hydrogens are replaced by fluorine. Fluorocarbons are generally colorless, nonflammable gases, but some are liquids at room temperature.
