fluoroacetic acid (FCH₂COOH)

[floo͡r′ō·asē′tik, -aset′ik]

a colorless water-soluble, highly toxic compound that blocks the citric acid cycle, causing convulsions and ventricular fibrillation. It is derived from a South African tree and is used in some potent pesticides.
