We began in 1910 with the Flexner Report, the first major study done by the foundation, which irreversibly changed this country's education of physicians.
Physicians became a professional guild to be reckoned with beginning in the early 20th century after the famous Flexner Report of 1910 changed the education and training of the American physician workforce.
The political prowess was matched by legitimation in the form of the Flexner report of 1910, resulting in the termination of many inferior 'regular' schools and the closure of many sectarian schools.
