hemifacial microsomia (HFM) (hem´ifā´sh n a condition in which one side of the lower face fails to develop properly. It is characterized by the malformation of the ear on the affected side and defects in the structure of the mandible. It is the second most common birth defect after clefts. Also called brachial arch syndrome, oral-mandibular-auricular syndrome, lateral facial dysplasia, or otomandibular dysostosis. How to thank TFD for its existence?
