locking

mechanical obstruction within a joint that results in the prohibition of movement throughout its range, e.g. the inability to fully flex the knee or move from a fixed position. In sport the knee is the most common joint to 'lock', often as a result of a loose body or meniscal tear. false locking may occur as a result of severe muscle spasm, e.g. of the hamstring muscles, causing limitation of movement at the knee.
