(fī'brō-nek'tinz),
High molecular weight multifunctional glycoproteins found on cell surface membranes and in blood plasma and other body fluids. Fibronectins are thought to function as adhesive ligandlike molecules that play a role in contact inhibition; also known as large external transformation sensitive protein (LETS), which is reduced after cells become transformed.

fibronectins

A family of glycoproteins occurring on cell surfaces, in most basement membranes and in blood and other body fluids. They are binding molecules that link to specific receptors on and within cells. They are involved in platelet aggregation and in the determination of cell shape and the formation of tissues. Fibronectin inhibitor drugs have been developed.
