fibromatosis /fi·bro·ma·to·sis/ (fi-bro″mah-to´sis)
1. the presence of multiple fibromas.
2. the formation of a fibrous, tumor-like nodule arising from the deep fascia, with a tendency to local recurrence.

aggressive fibromatosis  desmoid tumor, particularly one that is extra-abdominal.
fibromatosis gingi´vae , gingival fibromatosis noninflammatory fibrous hyperplasia of the gingiva manifested as a dense, diffuse, smooth or nodular overgrowth of the gingival tissues.
palmar fibromatosis  fibromatosis of palmar fascia, resulting in Dupuytren's contracture.
plantar fibromatosis  fibromatosis of plantar fascia, with single or multiple nodular swellings, sometimes with pain but usually without contractures.

1. The occurrence of multiple fibromas, with a relatively large distribution.
2. Abnormal hyperplasia of a fibrous tissue.

fibromatosis

Etymology: L, fibra + Gk, oma, tumor, osis, condition
a gingival enlargement believed to be hereditary, manifested in the secondary dentition. It is characterized by a firm hyperplastic tissue that covers the surfaces of the teeth. Differentiation between this condition and phenytoin hyperplasia is based on a history of phenytoin ingestion.

fibromatosis [fi″bro-mah-to´sis]
1. the presence of multiple fibromas.
2. the formation of a fibrous tumorlike nodule arising from the deep fascia, with a tendency to local recurrence.
fibromatosis gingi´vae (gingival fibromatosis) a noninflammatory fibrous hyperplasia of the gingivae and palate, manifested as a dense, smooth, or nodular overgrowth of the tissues. It is usually inherited as an autosomal dominant trait, but some cases are idiopathic and others are produced by drugs.
palmar fibromatosis fibromatosis involving the palmar fascia, and resulting in Dupuytren's contracture.
plantar fibromatosis fibromatosis involving the plantar fascia manifested as single or multiple nodular swellings, sometimes accompanied by pain but usually unassociated with contractures.

fibromatosis (fī´brōmtō´sis),
n a gingival enlargement believed to be a hereditary condition that is manifested in the permanent dentition and characterized by a firm hyperplastic tissue that covers the teeth. Differentiation between this and diphenylhydantoin (Dilantin) hyperplasia is based on a history of drug ingestion.
