The portion of an immunoglobulin molecule that can be crystallized.

Fc fragment
a portion of an immunoglobulin molecule, produced by papain digestion, with parts of two heavy chains. It has no antigen-combining sites, but contributes to a number of effector functions such as the binding of antibody to Fc receptors on a variety of cells, the transfer of antibody from the circulation into colostrum, the transfer across the gut of the newborn, and the binding of complement.
