Fatigue Fracture

fatigue fracture
n.
A fracture, usually transverse in orientation, that occurs as a result of repeated or unusual endogenous stress.

fatigue fracture,
any fracture that results from excessive physical activity and not from any specific injury, as commonly occurs in the metatarsal bones of runners. See also stress fracture.

Stress Fracture
A fracture due to repeated, unidirectional stress or strain on a particular musculoskeletal zone, or due to repeated relatively trivial bone trauma, resulting in local bone resorption
At risk groups Runners, ballet dancers—fibula, tibia; soldiers—metatarsal bones; jackhammer/pneumatic drill operators—metacarpal bones; office workers—coccyx
