Fagus

a genus of trees in the family Fagaceae; the residue (or mast) of the fruits or beech nuts are made into a cake after their oil is expressed. The cake and the nuts may cause poisoning, manifested by severe abdominal pain, convulsions and death. Includes F. grandifolium (American beech), F. sylvaticus (European beech).
