F_ab,

the fragment of an antibody molecule that contains the antigen-binding site, consisting of a light chain and part of a heavy chain. Such fragments are produced when antibodies are digested by enzymes, such as the protease papain. F_ab fragments are used as an antidote for treating toxicity caused by digoxin, digitoxin, and oleander tea. See also F_c, Digibind.
