Fédération Dentaire Internationale (F. D. I.) Two-Digit System (fā´dāräsyōN dôNter´ eN´ternäs´yōnäl´),

n.pr a recognized method used to identify and designate permanent and primary and deciduous teeth within the oral cavity. The first digit represents the quadrant number (1-4) starting with the maxillary right quadrant, moving around the maxillary arch to the left, then down and back to the right, and ending with the mandibular right quadrant. The second digit represents each tooth in the quadrant, numbered distally from the midline. Also called the
