Weakness of the extensor hallucis longus muscle and decreased sensation to pinprick on the lateral calf and the medial aspect of the dorsum of the foot were prevalent in our subjects, reflecting L5 nerve root dysfunction.
[6] The length of the invertor, evertor, dorsiflexor, and extensor hallucis longus muscles were of normal length.
In the intact extremity, the patient demonstrated Fair to Good (3/4) muscle strength in all muscle groups except for a muscle test grade of Zero (0) in the extensor hallucis longus muscle and the intrinsic muscles of the foot.
