Explosive Syndrome A symptom complex characterised by episodic outbursts of verbal abuse and physical violence in response to minor provocation, unrelated to psychiatric disease, which may occur in organic brain disease, after trauma, and metabolic dysfunction—e.g., hypoglycaemia, Wilson’s disease, uraemia, hyperammonemia, androgen or ‘roid rage—abuse, premenstrual syndrome, or Cushing’s disease; patients are usually pleasant between outbursts and apologetic for the explosions
