ethotoin /etho·to·in/ (eth´o-toin) an anticonvulsant used in the treatment of grand mal epilepsy and temporal lobe epilepsy. ethotoin [eth′ōtō′in] an anticonvulsant. indications It is prescribed in the treatment of generalized tonic-clonic and complex-partial seizures. contraindications Liver disease, hematologic disorders, or known hypersensitivity to this drug or to any hydantoin prohibits its use. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation. adverse effects Among the more serious adverse effects are blood disorders, nausea, fatigue, skin rash, alopecia, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, and chest pain. ethotoin (eth´ n brand name: Peganone; drug class: hydantoin derivative anticonvulsant; action: inhibits spread of seizure activity in motor cortex; uses: generalized tonic-clonic or complex-partial seizures. ethotoin Neurology An anticonvulsant used for generalized tonic clonic seizures Adverse effects BM suppression, aplastic anemia How to thank TFD for its existence?
