It has also been found to have an unexpected effect in stimulating the immune system by increasing T cell responsiveness and encouraging the activity of polymorphonuclear LEUCOCYTES and MACROPHAGES. It is effective in rheumatoid arthritis. Adverse side effects limit its use. The drug is on the WHO official list.
