homatropine /ho·mat·ro·pine/ (ho-mat´ro-pen) an anticholinergic similar to atropine; h. hydrobromide is used as a ophthalmic mydriatic and cycloplegic, and h. methylbromide is used as an inhibitor of gastric spasm and secretion.
homatropine an anticholinergic alkaloid obtained by the condensation of tropine and mandelic acid having anticholinergic effects similar to but weaker than those of atropine; used to produce parasympathetic blockade and as a mydriatic. The hydrobromide salt is used topically in ophthalmic drops and the methylbromide derivative is used orally for intestinal spasms. |
