Multiple small white epithelial inclusion cysts found in the midline of the palate in most newborns.

Epstein's pearls
Etymology: Alois Epstein, Czechoslovakian physician, 1849-1918; L, perla, a mussel
small, white pearl-like epithelial cysts that occur on both sides of the midline of the hard palate of the newborn. They are normal and usually disappear within a few weeks. Compare Bednar's aphthae, thrush.

Epstein's pearls,
n.pr white, ricelike, keratin-filled lesions of the midline hard palate mucosa. See also cyst, palatal, of the newborn.
