Infection or inflammation of an epicondyle.

Epicondylitis
A painful and sometimes disabling inflammation of the muscle and surrounding tissues of the elbow caused by repeated stress and strain on the forearm near the lateral epicondyle of the humerus (arm bone).

(ep´ikon´dlī´tis),
n a painful repetitive strain injury of the elbow characterized by inflammation or lesions in the muscles or tendons where they attach to the bone. Often known as “tennis elbow” when it affects the outside of the joint or “golfer's elbow” when it affects the inside of the joint.

The assessment of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in lateral epicondylitis by Maher (1) in the August issue of Physical Therapy's Evidence in Practice section needs some commentary.
The medical term for this condition is epicondylitis, and it's characterized by pain on the outside of the elbow in tennis and on the inside of the elbow in golf.
Lewis Yocum and diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis, more commonly known as tennis elbow.
