eosin /eo·sin/ (e´o-sin) any of a class of rose-colored stains or dyes, all being bromine derivatives of fluorescein; eosin Y, the sodium salt of tetrabromofluorescein, is much used in histologic and laboratory procedures.
eosin [ē′əsin] a group of red acidic xanthine dyes often used in combination with a blue-purple basic dye such as hematoxylin to stain tissue slides in the laboratory. eosin [e´o-sin] any of a class of rose-colored stains or dyes, all being bromine derivatives of fluorescein; eosin Y, the sodium salt of tetrabromofluorescein, is much used in histologic and laboratory procedures.
eosin (e´osin), n one of a pair of dyes used to color tissue samples to augment visibility under a microscope. The dyes are rose-colored, causing the cytoplasm to appear pink.
