Empty Calories
A unit of carbohydrate-based energy derived from refined food products that are high in sugars or salts, but essentially devoid of nutritive value, lacking protein, vitamins, dietary fiber, and essential fats. Empty calories are typical of ‘junk’ or snack foods
Examples Potato chips (crisps in the UK), pastries, cakes, soft drinks

Nutritional experts may disagree on details but they agree that readily available fast food filled with fat and empty calories combined with sedentary lifestyles are increasing the measurements of many of us today.
If you cut out the real bad empty calories and decrease your portions a little at a time you will lose weight if you become more active.
Instead of eating a candy bar with essentially empty calories, why not choose the more substantial bar that is focused on providing energy in a healthful way.
