Ajellomyces capsulatum A fungus of the Ajellomycetaceae family, which has a DNA genome of over 30M nucleotides and is a known cause of histoplasmosis. It is dimorphic and changes stages based on environmental temperature: at 25°C, such as in soil, where it is commonly found, it is in a filamentous mycelia state and produces spores that can be inhaled as aerosols; in the lungs, at 37°C, it changes into budding yeast of up to 2µm in length inside the host cell after phagocytosis.
