Motherwort acts as an emmenagogue, which can stimulate bleeding.
As a professional herbalist, I agree that there are some types of herbs that should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, such as emmenagogues, strong laxatives, bitters and diuretics, plants high in alkaloids, steroidal precursors, oxytocic and teratogenic herbs, and a few others.
The second most important method was consumption of pills or drugs containing such irritants and emmenagogues as quinine, aloes, or ergot; the third, douching by syringe or enema bag with lysol, carbolic acid, turpentine or simple soap and water; and the fourth dilation of the cervix by inserting slippery elm or packing the vagina with cotton batten.
