Sambucus nigra, Sambucus canadensis; parts used: buds, fruit; uses: common cold, toothaches, headaches, diaphoresis, hay fever, sinus infections, epidermal irritations, lacerations, liver disorders, inflammation; precautions: pregnancy, lactation; bark and leaves are poisonous; can cause nausea, cyanide poisoning. Also called
black elder, boretree, bountry, common elder, ellhorn, European elder, and
sweet elder.
