John Smith, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan and chairman of the Flight Related Deep Vein Thrombosis Campaign group, said new research showed wearing the special socks could reduce the risk of suffering from DVT, or Economy Class Syndrome by as much as 90 per cent.
But airlines argued they were only liable for "accidents" and that DVT, known as economy class syndrome, wasn't in this category.
VICTIMS of deep vein thrombosis - so-called economy class syndrome - today lost their appeal to the Law Lords for the right to claim compensation from airlines.
