Cardiology A β—agonist used to treat standard therapy-refractory acute CHF; in contrast to other beta agonists, e.g., isoproterenol, dobutamine is not associated with a ↑↑↑ in myocardial O₂ consumption–MOC, which precluded their use; dobutamine has only moderate vasodilating activity, ↑ cardiac output with little change in MOC.
