anthralin /an·thra·lin/ (an´thrah-lin) an anthraquinone derivative used topically in psoriasis.

a topical antipsoriatic.
indications It is prescribed in the treatment of psoriasis and chronic dermatitis.
contraindications Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is not applied to acute psoriatic eruptions or near the eyes.

Chodorowska G: Plasma concentrations of IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha in psoriatic patients before and after local treatment with dithranol ointment.
The treatments that are available include: Steroid creams and scalp applications; steroid tablets; Dithranol cream (also used for psoriasis); contact sensitisation treatment which involves making the patient allergic to a substance and then applying very weak strengths of this chemical to the bald patches; and ultraviolet light treatment.
The Garra Rufa, found in hot springs in Turkey, have no teeth but rub off bad cells while also injecting Dithranol into the skin which helps renewal.
