distillation

 [dis″tĭ-la´shun]
the process of vaporizing and condensing a substance to purify it or to separate a volatile substance from less volatile substances. Called also vaporization.
fractional distillation separation of volatilizable substances into a number of fractions, based on their different boiling points.

dis·til·la·tion

(dis'ti-lā'shŭn),
Volatilization of a liquid by heat and subsequent condensation of the vapor; a means of separating the volatile from the nonvolatile, or the more volatile from the less volatile, part of a liquid mixture.

destructive distillation , dry distillation decomposition of a solid by heating in the absence of air, resulting in volatile liquid products.
fractional distillation  that attended by the successive separation of volatilizable substances in order of their respective volatility.

Etymology: L, distillare, to drop down
the process of vaporization followed by condensation in another part of the system.

distillation

Aromatherapy
The process of vapourising a liquid by heat, condensing it at a cooler temperature and collecting the condensate; distillation serves to remove volatile impurities or undesired products, or to concentrate a volatile substance of interest.

distillation,

n process of separating a liquid from a solid by vaporizing it; followed by condensation of the vapor; essential oils are isolated by successively evaporating and condensing the water that contains the plant material.
distillation, portable (pōrˑ·t·bl disˈ·t·lāˑ·shn),
n distillation of essential oils using transportable equipment designed for producing small batches.
