USP3

A gene on chromosome 15q22.3 that encodes an enzyme which deubiquitinates monoubiquitinated target proteins, such as histones H2A and H2B. USP3 is required for progression through S-phase and mitotic entry; it may regulate the DNA damage response (DDR) checkpoint by deubiquitinating H2A at DNA damage sites. It associates with chromatin and is expressed in all tissues, especially the pancreas.

Further examination revealed that there was an exact match of the region to an mRNA sequence previously described as Homo sapiens deubiquitinating enzyme 3 (DUB3).
