Successful pain management following bladder surgery in children is often complicated by involuntary contractions of the detrusor muscle, known as bladder spasms. A flaccid anal sphincter may indicate poor detrusor muscle function. In addition, peripheral lesions can affect the parasympathetic supply to the detrusor muscle or the sympathetic supply to the bladder neck as well as somatic innervation to the external urethral sphincter. |
