determinant /de·ter·mi·nant/ (de-ter´mi-nent) a factor that establishes the nature of an entity or event.
antigenic determinant  the structural component of an antigen molecule responsible for its specific interaction with antibody molecules elicited by the same or related antigen.
hidden determinant  an antigenic determinant in an unexposed region of a molecule so that it is prevented from interacting with receptors on lymphocytes, or with antibody molecules, and is unable to induce an immune response; it may appear following stereochemical alterations of molecular structure.

a factor that establishes or changes the nature of an entity or event. The factor may be environmental, be a part of the host or its defenses, be single or multiple and be immediate or remote.

allotypic determinant
an antigenic determinant which varies among members of the same species.
antigenic determinant
a structural component of an antigen against which immune responses are made and to which antibody or T cell receptor binds; an antigen such as a protein has many antigenic determinants. Called also epitope.
