an anticoagulant. indication This drug is used in prophylaxis for deep vein thrombosis in those undergoing hip replacement. contraindications Known hypersensitivity to natural or synthetic hirudins, active bleeding, and irreversible coagulation disorders prohibit this drug's use. adverse effects Adverse effects of this drug include injection site mass, nausea, deep thrombophlebitis, anemia, and hypersensitivity.
