Dermatophagoides

Dermatophagoides /Der·ma·toph·a·goi·des/ (der″mah-tof″ah-goi´dēs) a genus of sarcoptiform mites, usually found on the skin of chickens. D. pteronys´simus is the house dust mite, an antigenic species that produces allergic asthma in atopic persons.

Etymology: Gk, derma + phagein, to eat, eidos, form
a genus of household dust mite responsible for allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Protection against the microscopically small mite includes minimizing dust in the home, especially in the bedroom; encasing pillows and mattresses in allergen-proof coverings; controlling temperature; and keeping humidity below 70%. The mites thrive on skin scales, hair, pet foods, carpets, and bedding, in addition to ordinary house dust.

Dermatophagoides
a genus of mites of the family Epidermoptidae. Includes Dermatophagoides farinae, D. pteronyssinus (housedust mites).

Enzymatic analyses of house dust mite extracts from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae (Acari: Pyroglyphidae) during different phases of culture growth.
The amount of antigen administered over the successive weeks, using one antigen as an example, is shown in table 3, where we compare the doses of antigen given by SCIT and SLIT in the case of a hypothetical patient allergic to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus whose endpoint is on the #3 dilution.
The main mite allergen, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus 1, is a digestive enzyme produced by the mite and excreted in dry, brittle fecal pellets (6).
