Dendrocnide
genus of Australian rainforest trees in family Urticaraciae. Stinging hairs on the foliage cause severe irritation and vesication of skin on contact; contains a toxic peptide moroidin. Includes D. excelsa, D. moroides, D. photinophylla. Called also Laportea spp., stinger, gympie.
