One hour of moderate exercise, or a half-hour of vigorous activity, lowered White women's LDL cholesterol by almost 4 milligrams per deciliter, and lowered African American women's LDL by 10.
The four-decade study of 9,844 men and women found that having high cholesterol in midlife (240 or higher milligrams per deciliter of blood) increases, by 66 percent, the risk for Alzheimer's disease later in life.
Only 30 percent of those patients, who have existing coronary artery disease or risk factors such as obesity, diabetes or smoking, successfully reached their target LDL of 70 milligrams per deciliter or less.
