An enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of DNA.

deoxyribonuclease (DNase) [de-ok″sĭ-ri″bo-nu´kle-ās]
an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis (depolymerization) of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

deoxyribonuclease. Group A streptococci elaborate DNases and commercially available DNase agar may be used to identify pathogenic species.
