NFKB1

A gene on chromosome 4q24 that encodes a kappa light polypeptide of NF-kappaB (nuclear factor-kappaB), a rapidly acting primary transcription factor which is found in all cell types and involved in cellular responses to stimuli, including cytokines and stress. NF-kappaB plays a key role in regulating the immune response to infection; it is involved in various biological processes including inflammation, immunity, differentiation, cell growth, tumourigenesis and apoptosis.
