Explaining the registration procedure, Fatma Hussain Al Hashimi, head of the administration and education unit at DCRC, said: "This procedure is simple; the expectant mother needs to visit DCRC sufficiently in advance of her baby being due.
The cord blood units are transported immediately from hospitals to DCRC through 24 hours active transport system and the units are processed within 24-48 hrs.
She added that in 2013, at DCRC, successfully preserved 326 units.
Overall 35 complaints have been addressed during the last two DCRC meetings including twenty complaints from Layyah, five from Rajanpur and ten (10) from Muzaffargarh.
The remaining complaints from Rajanpur, Layyah and Muzaffargarh would be addressed during May 19 meeting of DCRC while complaints from DG Khan districts would be decided on May 20, the DCRC chairman said.

In 2012, since the establishment of the education department at the DCRC, more than 700 units were collected, which was almost double the number of units collected in 2011.
Dr Fatma Al Hashemi, head of Education and Development Unit at the DCRC, said in a media statement, "We have seen a steady increase in the awareness levels among the public about cord blood banking and this has directly attributed to an increase in the number of people who save their cord blood at our cord blood bank.
Given the life-saving benefits, the cost Dh9,000 at the DCRC is a small amount to pay for storing the stem cells for 20 years," she said.
