These genes included succinate dehydrogenase (SDHC), cytochrome c oxidase (COX5B/ COX6B), and various genes of the ATP synthase complex (ATP5G1, ATP5C1, ATP5J, ATP5B, ATP5A1, ATP50, and ATP5F1). After years of trial and error, Hebert's team settled on a mitochondrial gene known as cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, or COI. We also mainly observed up-regulation of genes related with ion transporters including solute carrier family 34 (sodium phosphate), member 1 (Slc34a1, NaPi-II); and with electron transporters such as ATPase inhibitor, and cytochrome c oxidase, subunit IVa (Cox4a); subunit VIIIa (Cox8a); and subunit XVII assembly protein homolog (Cox 17). |
