| The AmpliChip CYP 450, which was co-developed with Affymetrix, can detect polymorphisms in cytochrome P450, an enzyme related to drug metabolism. Toluene induces expression of cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2EI), an enzyme involved in its own metabolism and that of other protoxicants, including some procarcinogens. John's wort contains two compounds--hypericin and hyperforin--that induce cytochrome P450 to increase the rate of drug metabolism. |
