tranexamic acid /tran·ex·am·ic ac·id/ (tran″ek-sam´ik) an antifibrinolytic that competitively inhibits activation of plasminogen; used as a hemostatic in the prophylaxis and treatment of severe hemorrhage associated with excessive fibrinolysis.
tranexamic acid [tran′ek-sam′ik] an agent that combats fibrinolysis by competitively inhibiting activation of plasminogen. It is used in prophylaxis and treatment of hemorrhage associated with excessive fibrinolysis, such as that after oral surgery in patients with hemophilia.
