Infection of the ganglia of the posterior roots of the spinal nerves or the fifth cranial nerve by the varcella-zoster virus (shingles), which also causes chicken pox; it is marked by a painful eruption of vesicles usually on one side of the body along the course of one or more cutaneous nerves.
They were each diagnosed as having meralgia paresthetica based on their symptoms and physical examination findings of sensory deficits in the distribution of their lateral femoral cutaneous nerves (LFCN), without associated motor deficits.
Next, the authors provide photographs showing the anterior body wall, accompanied by superimposed illustrations of cutaneous nerves and blood vessels.
