curanderismo /cu·ran·de·ris·mo/ (koo-ron″dĕ-riz´mo) a traditional Mexican-American healing system combining various theoretical elements into a holistic approach to illness and believing that disease may have not only natural but also spiritual causes. curanderismo, Curanderismo (kōōˈ·rän·de·rēzˑ·mō), n Mexican-American healing tradition with roots in Moorish, Greek, Judeo-Christian, and Native American practices and beliefs. The Curandero (or healer) is consulted by the people in his community for help and spiritual assistance to resolve health, relational, and financial problems.
