A yellow, progesterone-secreting mass of cells that forms from a Graafian follicle after the release of a mature egg. Also called yellow body.

Corpus luteum
A small, yellow structure that forms in the ovary after an egg has been released.

If a corpus luteum is present, she has already ovulated and may be pregnant.
