1. any genetically determined characteristic; also, the condition prevailing in the heterozygous state of a recessive disorder, as the sickle cell trait.
2. a distinctive behavior pattern.

sickle cell trait  the condition, usually asymptomatic, due to heterozygosity for hemoglobin S.
