construct validity

validity of a test or a measurement tool that is established by demonstrating its ability to identify or measure the variables or constructs that it proposes to identify or measure. The judgment is based on the accumulation of correlations from numerous studies using the instrument being evaluated. See also validity.

We used the known-groups method (9) to examine the construct validity of the HINT to address this research aim.
Construct validity is measured by the extent to which hypotheses--suggested by theory and prior research about the relationship between a target construct and other possible constructs--are supported by data.
Construct validity is established for a measure with the gradual accumulation of evidence from different sources over time, and each type of evidence presented above is pertinent to the inclusive, integrative concept of construct validity (Anastasi & Urbina, 1997).
