    0.01 sec.
component therapy,
a transfusion of specific blood components instead of whole blood. Packed red cells or platelet-rich plasma suspensions may be transfused in larger quantities than would be possible if whole blood were used. More sophisticated processing provides fibrinogen or antihemophilic globulin solutions for administration in therapeutic amounts exceeding what might be given with conventional blood transfusion therapy. Compare plasmapheresis. See also packed cells, pooled plasma.
