A marriage of these two philosophies in comparative studies is best achieved through on-site studies. Ballinger explains in the "Preface" that his work addresses three shortcomings in the scholarship on Native tricksters: the absence of comparative studies of the many different tribal tricksters; the absence of studies of tricksters grounded in American Indian traditions and cultures; and the lack of book-length studies of tricksters. |
