To control for underlying disease, a Charlson comorbidity index (19) was calculated by using data from the medical history recorded on the chart. A validated measure of comorbidity, the Self-Administered Comorbidity Questionnaire (SCQ), (48) was used to obtain information from patients on potential confounding health conditions that might limit their response to physical therapy treatment. |
